When vetting potential horses for our program, we use a number of visual and auditory stimuli to test how our horses react to unexpected noises and sounds. The horses suited for our program are calm, curious and genuinely enjoy interacting with our students and volunteers. Although many of our horses join us later in their lifetimes, we take extra steps to help keep our important helpers healthy and happy for a number of years. When they are ready, we retire them, and they go to live with a family or they live out their days on the farm.
